From yarn to garment, made in Japan
From yarn production to design, knitting and finishing, our knitwear is made in Japan. We develop and knit our garments in our own workshop in Okayama.
This guide applies to EMS (international post). Shipping charges are shown at checkout.
Dispatch from Japan
After production, we dispatch through Japan Post EMS. Use the tracking number to follow the shipment after dispatch.
Customs at your destination
The local postal operator or other local authorities handle clearance and delivery after arrival. If Customs requests documents, provide the order information or other documents requested.
Receive and pay as instructed
Pay any tax or handling fees separately according to the local notice. Methods and timing vary: online, at delivery, at a counter or by invoice.
Estimates by country and region
These are reference estimates for ordinary clothing bought for personal use and received by EMS, not a final bill. Materials, value, freight, exchange rates, preferential eligibility and Customs assessment may change the amount. Checkout GST and taxes collected at import are separate systems.
The representative tariff example is a Japan-made, 100% polyester knitted skirt (HS610453). Preferential rates whose eligibility has not been verified are not assumed.
Checked:
Hong Kong — Ordinary clothing: estimated import duty and VAT 0%.
Ordinary clothing has no import duty or VAT. A 0% tax estimate does not make special handling or other procedures free of charge.
Ordinary clothing normally requires no customs-tax payment. Follow Hongkong Post or Customs instructions if supporting documents are requested.
Taiwan — For a representative synthetic knitted skirt, combined tax is about 17.6% of CIF.
The representative skirt (HS6104.53 equivalent) has 12% standard duty and 5% import business tax. Duty is 12% of CIF (goods plus freight and insurance); 5% is then applied to the duty-inclusive amount, giving about 17.6% combined. Materials and classification can change the rate. The general low-value exemption is NT$2,000 or less in customs value; frequent imports and other exclusions may not qualify.
If assessed, pay according to the tax notice when the postal item is delivered or at the designated counter. Online payment is not universally available for postal items.
South Korea — Eligible simplified personal clothing imports: estimated 18% plus ₩4,000 EMS clearance fee.
The 18% simplified rate applies to eligible personal-use clothing purchases, including purchases of US$1,000 or less that meet postal simplified-assessment conditions. The taxable base includes the goods, freight and insurance. Do not add VAT again to this consolidated rate. Personal-use goods of US$150 or less may qualify for exemption, subject to valuation and eligibility rules.
Taxable EMS items have a ₩4,000 clearance fee. When notified of the tax and fee, follow Korea Post instructions and pay before delivery.
Singapore — Clothing duty 0%; air-postal CIF above S$400 generally attracts 9% GST and applicable fees.
Clothing duty is 0%. Air-postal imports with CIF (goods plus freight and insurance) not exceeding S$400 generally qualify for import GST relief. The overseas-vendor low-value GST collected at checkout is a separate system with its own conditions. Above S$400, 9% GST generally applies to CIF and any other taxable amounts.
If billed, pay through the SingPost app, Pay with SAM or a post office as instructed; delivery follows payment. The applicable handling fee is estimated at S$10.90.
Canada — With standard 18% duty, combined taxes are about 24–36% of goods customs value, plus CAD9.95.
A synthetic knitted skirt (HS6104.53) has 18% standard duty. GST, HST and provincial tax depend on the destination; Ontario charges 13% HST on the duty-inclusive value. Separately documented international freight from Japan is excluded from customs value. CPTPP or other preferential duty applies only if eligible.
Eligible items can be paid online by card before delivery through Canada Post tracking. Otherwise pay by card at delivery, or by cash or card when collecting at a post office. The postal handling fee is CAD9.95.
Switzerland — Clothing duty 0%; 8.1% VAT plus postal clearance of CHF16 and 3% of the assessed value, excluding VAT.
Clothing duty is 0%. The 8.1% VAT base includes the goods, freight and clearance service fees. For post from Japan, clearance is CHF16 plus 3% of goods and freight value, excluding VAT, normally capped at CHF70. VAT of CHF5 or less is not collected; an assessed value including freight of about CHF62 is a guide to the threshold.
Follow the Swiss Post notice or invoice. My consignments users can pay online by card, TWINT or other supported methods via SMS, email or the app, normally within 20 days, including after delivery. Later payment uses a posted QR-bill. Online payment discounts the basic fee by CHF1.50.
Australia — Ordinary clothing with a customs value of A$1,000 or less generally has no tax collected at the border.
A synthetic knitted skirt (HS6104.53) has 0% standard duty. International freight and insurance are excluded from the A$1,000 threshold. A separate low-value system may apply 10% GST at checkout depending on the seller’s GST registration and other conditions. Above A$1,000, 10% GST generally applies to the goods, freight and insurance, with declaration and other applicable charges.
Above A$1,000, follow Australia Post’s First Notice, lodge the import declaration and pay the ABF invoice before delivery. Checkout GST on low-value goods and charges collected at import are separate systems.
New Zealand — Ordinary clothing valued at NZ$1,000 or less generally has no duty or GST collected by Customs.
International freight and insurance are excluded from the NZ$1,000 threshold. A separate system may collect 15% GST at checkout depending on the seller’s GST registration and other conditions. Above NZ$1,000, a synthetic knitted skirt has 10% standard duty; 15% GST applies to the goods plus duty, freight, insurance and other taxable amounts. Levies and handling fees may also apply.
For a taxable parcel, follow NZ Post’s letter, complete Customs clearance and pay the invoice by internet banking before delivery. This Customs payment does not accept cards.
